The music of the Nashville based group, The Barefoot Movement, is as down to earth as their intention for members of their audience: sit back, relax, take your shoes off, and stay awhile. They have been heralded by CMT Edge as “one of the most promising bands on the bluegrass scene.” On Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., The Matthews is excited to present a live concert by this up-and-coming young band. Officially credentialed with Bachelors degrees in Bluegrass & Old Time Music, The Barefoot Movement is anything but your standard bluegrass band. They stretch from a strong foundation of traditional Appalachian music, borrowing the best from other roots-based genres to shape their hallmark sound. In a typical show you’ll hear elements of bluegrass, blues, folk, rock country and pop through their narrative lyrics, tight three-part harmonies, hot instrumental riffs, lilting blues scales and catchy vocal hooks.
This charming four-piece acoustic band takes listeners back to a simpler place and time. Whether you’re seeking emotional ballads or rip-roaring barn-burners, you can expect a collection of music that offers something for everyone. With two full length albums, several cross-country tours, and appearances at some of the top bluegrass festivals in the United States already under their belt, the possibilities are endless. The group has enjoyed almost non-stop touring including a trip to Burkina Faso, Africa where they were guests of the American Embassy. Debuting in September, 2014, their third release, “The High Road EP” showcases traditional material that has consistently been among the crowd favorites at their live performances.
Award winning
Just this past October, the Barefoot Movement was awarded the Momentum Award at the 25th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards (IBMA) held in Raleigh, North Carolina. “We are humbled and honored that IBMA chose to recognize us as “Band of the Year” in their Momentum Awards category. Someone told us recently that the only way to survive in the music industry is to get used to disappointment. We think that’s something anyone trying to make it can relate to. Being included, even just as a nominee among these talented performers helps us know that we’re doing something right. It’s a great triumph over many trials. Sincere thanks to all of our supporters out there,” the band said.
The Momentum Awards focus on artists and business people who are in the early stages of their careers in Bluegrass music.
Another big moment for the band was their first runners up performance at the 2013 Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s New Band competition.
