2026 Exhibit Policy Terms

By participating in exhibits at The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center, artists agree to abide by all exhibit policies, including guidelines on artwork subject matter, display requirements, sales procedures, and duration of display.

Delivery & Pick-Up

  • Provide an inventory list with titles, dimensions, and prices before installation.
  • Deliver artwork ready to hang/display (with proper hardware).
  • Artists must deliver and pick up works on the dates/times agreed upon. Unclaimed works after 30 days may be considered abandoned and donated to the Matthews.

Presentation Standards

  • All wall-hung works must have secure hanging hardware. Works must be clean and free of damage. The Matthews is not responsible for damage done due to faulty hardware.
  • All work must remain on display for the full duration of the exhibit. Early removal is not permitted.
  • All work must be labled on the back with artist name, artwork title, medium, and year created.

Content Restrictions

  • Artwork must be appropriate for all ages. The Matthews reserves the right to decline any work containing nudity, explicit sexual themes, gore, or depictions of extreme violence.
  • We welcome a wide range of creative processes; however, artists are required to disclose any use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation of submitted work so we can provide transparency for our audiences.
  • The Matthews will not accept works that depict Native American imagery, regalia, or cultural symbols unless created by an enrolled member of a federally or state-recognized tribe, or with documented tribal permission.
  • The Matthews reserves the right to decline work that does not align with the gallery’s mission or community standards.

Insurance & Liability

  • The Matthews will insure any work against damage*, loss, or theft while retained in our inventory. The Artist is responsible for ensuring their work while in transit to and from the Matthews.
  • *The Matthews is not responsible for damage done due to faulty hardware.
  • The artist accepts and assumes all risks concerning the glass covering for any of their art pieces

Sale of Artwork

  • The Matthews will act as the sales agent for works during the exhibit.
  • Commission rate: 30% to The Matthews / 70% to Artist (unless otherwise stated)
  • All sales will be processed by The Matthews. Applicable sales tax will be collected and remitted by The Matthews.
  • Payments for sold works (minus commission) will be issued within 30 days of the exhibit’s close. A 1099 form will be issued for earnings over $600/year.

Exhibit Promotion

  • The Matthews may photograph, film, or otherwise reproduce images of the work for marketing, social media, press, and archival purposes.
