Bellman Brown Bag: What’s in a Name?

April 11, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
FREE

Silbs Silbernagle, instructor of American Indian Studies at BHSU, discusses the final ArtCentral Film Festival movie, “More than a Word.” This film is showing on Thursday, Apr. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at BHSU’s Jonas Hall, Room 305. The movie (as the rest of the films in the festival) is free.

“More Than A Word” analyzes the Washington DC professional football team and their use of the derogatory term “R*dskins.” Using interviews from both those in favor of changing the name and those against, “More Than A Word” presents a deeper analysis of the many issues surrounding the Washington team name. The documentary also examines the history of Native American cultural appropriation.

What is the Bellman?

The Bellman Brown Bag series is a humanities program designed to explore ideas, history, literature, art, and culture.  Programs are presented on the second Wednesday of each month, noon to 1:00 p.m.  Designed to begin and end within each lunch hour, patrons are invited to bring their lunch, if desired, or simply enjoy an hour of learning and entertainment.
