ART HAPPY HOUR: Fiber Tiles

February 20, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
FREE

Fiber Tiles

During this Tuesday Art Happy Hour, Elizabeth Mattson provides instruction on the making of fiber tiles.

Fiber tiles are an outstanding way to use found materials to make something visually interesting and personal. The basic materials for fiber tiles can be easily found in your home; whether that’s string, fabric, beads, buttons, yarn, or twine. They can be made at any skill level and can be as simple or as complicated as you desire. Fiber tiles can also be made from very meaningful pieces to create a memorial piece for a loved one or commemorate a special day.

This is a FREE event presented by ArtCentral SpearfishRecommended for ages 15 and up. Younger children may attend but must be accompanied by an adult. *Some of these events will have wine and beer for sale. IDs will be checked.

The workshop takes place in the ArtCentral RE:create makerspace in The Matthews’ art gallery.

Sign-up is preferred

Even though the workshop is free, sign-up would be preferred in order for the instructor to be prepared with the correct amount of materials and supplies. Either call the art gallery at 605.642.7973 ext.0 — OR email kirk@matthewsopera.com to add your name to the class list. If emailing, be sure to provide a phone number.

About Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mattson

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mattson was raised in Buffalo, WY, where she was taught fiber crafts such as embroidery, quilting, garment making, and crochet. She currently resides in Spearfish, SD.

Sustainability is part of Elizabeth’s process as she repurposes materials such as fabric trimmings, dryer sheets, strips of canvas, and doilies. She is drawn to neutral color schemes, which allow her to showcase the unique textures and patterns found in her materials. Elizabeth hopes to present a unique perspective to the lost and forgotten elements of this beautifully textured craft.
