Artist Workshops: Leather-bound Journals
May 26, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join us in the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center gallery for our free artist workshops! Twice a month we will offer classes led by practicing artists in a variety of media. Each workshop is a three-hour session in which you will get hands-on experience in crafting your own masterpiece.
On Thursday, May 26, we will feature Cary Thrall, teaching the art of leather-bound journals. This session guides participants through the steps of building a multiple-signature book. You will learn basic terminology and how to use binding materials and tools. This class is a great introduction or addition to your practice of the time-honored tradition of bookmaking. Participants will complete their own leatherbound, hand-made book. All materials, tools and supplies are provided. You can make this to keep or as a special gift. Space is limited, register soon.Future workshops include instruction on sewing (6/9).
These events are free, however, we always encourage a “pay as you can” donation to help offset the cost of supplies.
These workshops are a makeSPACE at the Matthews event, made possible by the South Dakota Arts Council.
Space is limited. Reserve your spot by calling the Matthews (605) 717-6967
