The Matthews was honored to host the South Dakota premiere of Dominique, a deeply moving short documentary that follows the life of a young woman with disabilities living and working right here in Spearfish. What began as a film screening quickly became something more—a genuine, community-powered celebration of love, resilience, and inclusion.
Over 200 people filled the theater, many bringing homemade food to share, creating a potluck-style gathering that felt more like a family reunion than a formal event. After the film, Dominique and her family took the stage for a Q&A, responding to questions with such warmth, honesty, and joy that the entire room felt transformed.
We’re deeply grateful to Dominique, her family, and the filmmakers for trusting us with this story. The evening was a joyful and successful fundraiser for Dominique the Film and The Matthews—but more than that, it was a reminder of who we are at our best: a place where every voice matters, every story has value, and community comes first.
