DESCRIPTION:The Life & Times of a WWII Royal Air Force Spitfire Pilot \nWWII RAF fighter pilot John Wilkinson\, now an American citizen living in Spearfish\, flew the historic Spitfire and Hurricane fighters.  He will share some of his experiences and discuss his flying technique.  \nExcerpt from Nov. 11\, 2014\, article in the Black Hills Pioneer (by Jaci Conrad Pearson)While a teenager\, Wilkinson found no redeeming qualities in the spoils of World War II\, volunteering to fight in England’s Royal Air Force nurtured this fighter pilot’s passion for flying and dog fighting that still shines through to this day. \n“Much can be said about the futility of war\, but when one’s homeland is attacked and freedom is in jeopardy\, those who can must spring to arms\,” Wilkinson said. “In my case\, I became a Royal Air Force fighter pilot and served with 41 Squadron.” \nWilkinson\, just 18 years old in 1941 when he enlisted to join English forces and volunteered for flight training\, further explained his reason for signing up to join the war effort.   READ entire article. \nNOTE: This presentation was originally scheduled in Nov. 2015.   \nWhat is the Bellman?\nThe Bellman Brown Bag series is a humanities program designed to explore ideas\, history\, literature\, art and culture.  Programs are presented on the second Wednesday of each month\, noon to 1:00 p.m.  Designed to begin and end within each lunch hour\, patrons are invited to bring their lunch\, if desired\, or simply enjoy an hour of learning and entertainment.

DESCRIPTION:MUSIC FOR THE HOLIDAYS\nSeason Thirteen! \nA variety of talented pianists will perform together at noon\, Wednesday\, Dec. 14.  This event\, as for all Bellman events\, is FREE and open to the public. \n“Music for the Holidays” is the title of the December concert of the Spearfish Piano Duet Club. The club has performed on the popular Brown Bag series since 2004. \nPerformers include Sue Cole\, Donna Dettman\, Mary Fetters\, Ramona Hauck\, Ardyth Helmer\, Rita Hicks\, Laura Kolb\, Janeen Larsen\, Colleen McKirdy\, Lori Miller\, Angie O’Shea\, and Symeon Waseen. BHSU students Abby Belus\, Alan Bonde Carissa Deming and\, Liz Luke\, will also perform. \nThe Spearfish Duet Club began in 2003\, under the leadership of Synva Chrysler and Marianne Bieber\, as a way for intermediate and advanced pianists to maintain their piano skills and at the same time have fun and enjoy each others’ musical talents. Members of the community and BHSU music students are involved in the performance and rehearsal activities.  \nBring your lunch — we’ll have the coffee on.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY THEATER: 5th Theatre on the Run
DESCRIPTION:The fifth annual Theatre on the Run event is bigger and better this year. After selling out the event for four years straight\, it was decided to add a second date for the event. Theatre on the Run will be held at 6:00 p.m.\, on two consecutive Saturdays\, Sept. 10 and 17. The plays and casts remain the same\, just the downtown locations will change. On both evenings\, The Matthews Opera House will be the location of the finale performance. \nTheatre on the Run begins with four different groups of theatre patrons–25 people each– starting at a different location. After each group has enjoyed a 15-20 minute play\, the audience rotates to the next location to view the next production. This will continue until the grand finale\, where all four groups will meet in the Matthews Opera House for the last show.
