Castle\,  Christina D. King\n\n“Warrior Women” is the story of mothers and daughters fighting for Native rights in the American Indian Movement of the 1970s. The film unveils not only a female perspective of history\, but also examines the impact political struggles have on the children who bear witness. In the 1970s\, with the swagger of unapologetic Indianness\, organizers of the American Indian Movement (AIM) fought for Native liberation and survival as a community of extended families. \nWarrior Women is the story of Madonna Thunder Hawk\, one such AIM leader who shaped a kindred group of activists’ children – including her daughter Marcy – into the “We Will Remember” Survival School as a Native alternative to government-run education. Together\, Madonna and Marcy fought for Native rights in an environment that made them more comrades than mother-daughter. Today\, with Marcy now a mother herself\, both are still at the forefront of Native issues\, fighting against the environmental devastation of the Dakota Access Pipeline and for Indigenous cultural values. \nThrough a circular Indigenous style of storytelling\, this film explores what it means to navigate a movement and motherhood and how activist legacies are passed down and transformed from generation to generation in the context of colonizing government that meets Native resistance with violence. \nWatch trailer and find out more

Tad was a strong supporter of the Music Department at Black Hills State University. As well as providing scholarship funds\, he was a major donor toward the purchase of a Steinway piano for the recital hall in Meier Hall. He was a distinguished faculty member in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for nearly forty years. As a result he was well aware of how difficult it is for faculty to find funding for the purchase of equipment for research and teaching. During a decade as head of his department\, he was a driving force in obtaining funding for equipment that would foster the careers of young professors. He was delighted to have the opportunity to quickly make a dream come true for the BHSU music professors who had launched a fund-raising effort to purchase a much needed world class piano. Students and faculty were profuse in their thanks to Tad. Just last fall Sandra sat in on a class through BHSU’s Visitor Pass program and as they left class a student said to her “I’m on my way over to Meier Hall to play on the Steinway. Thank you.” Tad would have loved to hear that comment! \n

Leaning into the Wind – Andy Goldsworthy follows Andy on his exploration of the layers of his world and the impact of the years on himself and his art. As Goldsworthy introduces his own body into the work it becomes at the same time even more fragile and personal and also sterner and tougher\, incorporating massive machinery and crews on his bigger projects. Riedelsheimer’s exquisite film illuminates Goldsworthy’s mind as it reveals his art.

All seats are $30.  Tickets must be purchased no later than Dec. 7. \nThis event is currently sold out! Make sure to mark your calendars for when next year’s Holiday High Tea tickets go on sale: November 1\, 2020 at 10:00 am. \nOur attendees come in all ages\, sizes\, and gender.  Many patrons arrive in their favorite hats\, including the children.  The tea is a step back to a more gentile time of connecting with friends and family while enjoying homemade pastries\, tea sandwiches\, and\, of course\, tea.  It’s also an afternoon to take a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping. \nMulled Wine and Silent Auction\nAn added beverage will be available for purchase — mulled wine! Tis the season. So\, if you’d like to partake\, remember to bring some cash with you. \nDuring this year’s event\, there will be a fun silent auction.  Time to finish up your holiday shopping!  Also\, we will be raffling off select centerpieces. \nWe encourage anyone interested in coming to the Holiday High Tea\, to not wait too long.  This event typically sells out!

SUMMARY:The Talbott Brothers - Subscription Series
DESCRIPTION:The second event of The Matthews’ 2019-20 Subscription Series will take place on Nov. 14\, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. \nBlood is thicker than water and there’s nothing like family creating music together to prove it. With contrasting blood-harmonies and left-handed/right-handed guitar playing\, singer-songwriter duo The Talbott Brothers combine rock\, blues and pop with honest storytelling. \nNick and Tyler were born and raised in Imperial\, a small town in Southwestern Nebraska\, just a stone’s throw from the Colorado border. They began writing and performing together before relocating to their mother’s birthplace of Portland\, Oregon. Tyler\, the youngest (lead vocals\, baritone guitar\, harmonica) and Nick\, the oldest (backing vocals\, lead guitar) discovered their love of music after digging their dad’s old dreadnaught guitar out of the basement and teaching themselves to play along to Johnny Cash\, Bob Seger and the Beatles on vinyl. \nFollowing the release of 2017’s GRAY\, they found themselves in front of sold out crowds in the US and sharing the stage with ZZ Ward\, Johnnyswim and AJR. Ear to the Ground Music dubbed the record as one of the ‘Top 5 Albums of the Year’ stating it as\, “equal parts optimistic and captivating\, inspiring and hopeful.” Through rigorous touring and over half a million streams on Spotify\, they continue to build a strong and loyal fanbase wherever they go. \nWebsite | Spotify | Facebook
