SUMMARY:"Once Upon A Shoe" and "Bad Play"
DESCRIPTION:See both “Once Upon A Shoe” and “All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play” in this special double feature performance on Sunday\, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. \n“Once Upon A Shoe” by Joseph Robinette: Mother Goose sadly announces to her children that they must leave their home—a large\, comfortable shoe—and move to an old sneaker “across the tracks.” The children decide to “put on a show” to save their shoe\, and in the best Garlandooney tradition\, they proceed to enact eight of Mother Goose’s best poems. In the audience\, a stranger turns out to be the famous movie producer Cecil B. DeMillstream and\, of course\, he loves the show! The shoe is saved and Mother Goose and her troupe are off to Hollywood. This production is performed by children in grades 2-6. \n“All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play” by Werner Trieschmann: Based on several disastrous theatrical experiences\, “Bad Play” peels back a tattered curtain to examine the process of putting on a show that is less than good. A stuffy narrator (what bad play is complete without a stuffy narrator?) guides the audience through the whole sorry process. We go from the audition—where the director is more worried about roast beef than paying attention to the warm-up exercise\, and the neurotic cast pretends to be bacon—to rehearsals—where a passive-aggressive stage manager gives everyone grief. There’s also a special meeting of the Small Part Support Group and a production of Romeo and Juliet set in a Starbucks with costumes of potato sacks and bowler hats. This production is performed by children in grades 7-12.  \n“Once Upon A Shoe” is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock\, Illinois \n“All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play” is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock\, Illinois

Known for his range as a talented lead and harmony singer\, Chet is now also available as a solo performer in addition to ensemble performances. Chet has established himself as a permanent fixture in the South Dakota performing arts community since 1987. He has performed\, toured\, and recorded with local and regional musicians and more than a dozen national acts\, and is listed among many talented musicians in the South Dakota Rock & Roll Music Hall of Fame. Although he is most comfortable performing classic country music\, his musical repertoire and capabilities extend to jazz\, blues\, bluegrass\, rock and roll\, and spiritual genres.  He continues to perform statewide as bassist/vocalist/pianist for The Wilt Brothers Band\, a classic country band performing since the mid-1970s; bassist/vocalist for Campfire Concerto\, an acoustic cowboy music quartet; and bassist for Les Singes Volants\, a gypsy jazz ensemble\, among others. \nConnie Hubbard – Connie Hubbard is no stranger to the Matthews Opera House stage. She has acted\, directed and played in numerous theater productions and concerts over the last seventeen years. Hubbard teaches German language to high school students online\, and to university students at BHSU and SDSM&T. Connie started piano lessons at age 3 and finally finished her music degree at BHSU in 2006. She is so happy to be out of the house and to have the opportunity to play piano with this talented group! Hubbard lives in Spearfish\, has two grown adventuresome kids\, and an awesome husband\, Todd. \nListen\n[arve url=”https://youtu.be/Lg03Mg39uB0″ loop=”no” muted=”no” /] \n[arve url=”https://youtu.be/AjsHrdS6rVY” loop=”no” muted=”no” /]

They showcase America’s dynamic present by combining the diverse talents of four U.S. citizens\, each with a unique cultural background. In this group\, old songs are made new through creative arrangements that highlight the exceptional and well-honed skills of each member. \nAPQ performances strive to counter pervasive prejudices around the issues of race and immigration. In order to help strengthen our country’s social fabric\, APQ desires that its audiences reflect on the notion that as Americans we must acknowledge our differences to discover our commonalities. We must recognize the realities of racism and prejudice in order to build authentic and lasting bonds across cultures and color lines. While we are not responsible for our country’s past\, we are accountable for its future. \n[arve url=”https://youtu.be/NsDwoAr35k8″ loop=”no” muted=”no” /] \nListen\n\nAPQ Band Members\n\n\nClay Ross is a Grammy Award winning artist and the founder of the Billboard chart topping band Ranky Tanky.
