It has been a gathering place where emerging and established artists found their voice\, where bold ideas were welcomed\, and where conversations unfolded between neighbors standing shoulder to shoulder. The walls have carried thousands of stories\, from first exhibitions to celebrated retrospectives\, each one contributing to the creative heartbeat of Spearfish. \nThis reception is both a meaningful farewell to this chapter of the space and a celebration of everything it has made possible. We invite artists\, supporters\, volunteers\, and friends to come share memories\, reconnect\, and reflect on the impact the gallery has had on our community. \nAt the same time\, we look forward with optimism and renewed commitment. The visual arts program at the Matthews continues to grow and evolve\, and our dedication to supporting local artists remains strong. SUMMARY:Spearfish ArtWalk
DESCRIPTION:Experience downtown Spearfish transformed into a vibrant\, walkable gallery during the Spearfish ArtWalk. Starting on June 20\, local businesses throughout Main Street will showcase artwork from artists of all ages and experience levels\, with displays remaining up through June 28. Visitors are invited to explore participating spaces\, meet artists during the opening reception\, and celebrate creativity woven throughout the heart of the community. \nThis year’s ArtWalk also features artwork created through the Canyon Hills Visiting Artist Program\, a collaboration between the Matthews and Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota\, supported in part by an Arts Midwest GIG Grant. By bringing together youth artists\, regional creators\, businesses\, and community members\, the Spearfish ArtWalk creates a unique opportunity to experience art beyond traditional gallery walls while celebrating the creative spirit of the Northern Black Hills. \nOpening Reception: June 20th\, 4-6pm \nOur Partner Spaces\nWe’re excited to announce the host locations for the 2026 Spearfish ArtWalk! \n\nHenry’s Books\nCommon Grounds Coffee Shop (On Display All of June)\nLeone’s Creamery\nGrace Balloch Memorial Library\nSpearfish ClayWorks\nThe Art Nest Gallery\nMatthews Opera House & Arts Center\n\nThese spaces will be available during the reception on June 20th from 4-6.
