DESCRIPTION:WHO: Theater at the Matthews is heating up and we want you to be a part of it! \nWHAT: Auditions for Theater on the Run & Getting Our Acts Together \nWHERE: Matthews Opera House\, 612 N. Main Street\, Spearfish \nWHEN:  July 24 & 25\, 6-8 pm Rehearsals Begin the Following Week \nWHY: Community\, Connection\, and Creativity? Why NOT? \nHOW: No experience necessary! You will be asked to read with other participants from sections of the script previously selected by the directors. All auditions will be performed as a “cold read” (seeing the script for the first time). Auditions are also a great time to express your interest in backstage work\, set building\, lights and all of the other necessary skills that make a show great! Stop by if you have any interest in the action “behind the scenes” and visit with the directors.  \n\nTHE SHOWS THAT WILL HAVE US ON OUR TOES (LITERALLY)\nWhat exactly is Theater on the Run (TOTR?): The Matthews is excited to enter the 13th year of Theater on the Run! Think of it as progressive theater. Small groups of theatre patrons–25 people each– start at different locations. After each group has enjoyed a 15-20 minute play\, the audience rotates to the next location to view the next production.\n\n“ALMOST MAIN” by John Cariani Directors: Charlotte Fladmoe\, Matt Woodard\, Cami Dohman\, Lisa Myhre\nA woman carries her heart\, broken into nineteen pieces\, in a small paper bag. A man shrinks to half his former size\, after losing hope in love. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags\, or compress the mass into the size of a diamond. These playful and surreal experiences are commonplace in the world of John Cariani’s Almost\, Maine\, where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night\, the citizens of Almost — not organized enough for a town\, too populated for a wilderness — experience the life-altering power of the human heart. Relationships end\, begin\, or change beyond recognition\, as strangers become friends\, friends become lovers\, and lovers turn into strangers. Propelled by the mystical energy of the aurora borealis and populated with characters who are humorous\, plain-spoken\, thoughtful\, and sincere\, Almost\, Maine is a series of loosely connected tales about love\, each with a compelling couple at its center\, each with its own touch of sorcery. \nTheater on the Run performs Saturday\, September 7 & 14 at 6 pm with a special matinee “running in place” performance on Sunday\, September 15 at 2 pm. \n…Getting Our Acts Together: Great things happen when we unite!\nOnce again\, we’re joining forces with Belle Fourche and Lead community theaters to present “Getting Our Acts Together\,” a night of Northern Hills one-acts! Each community will select and produce its own one-act play. Both shows will then be presented in each community \n“STAGED MURDER” Written and directed by Julie Walkins.\nWhen authorities are called to a theater to investigate gunshots they discover what it means that the show must go on. Getting Our Acts Together performs in Belle Fourche on October 10; Lead-Deadwood on October 11; Sturgis on October 12; and Spearfish on October 13.  \n\n  \n
