And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb’s Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos. But things are not looking too promising: Miss Geneva\, the ousted director of the previous twenty-seven productions\, is ruthless in her attempts to take over the show. SUMMARY:10th Annual Theater on the Run
DESCRIPTION:Theater on the Run is back for its tenth year on September 11 & 18 at 6:00 p.m! Each Saturday\, four downtown Spearfish businesses open their doors to a set of actors and a scene from our play. The play and cast remain the same on both dates\, just the downtown locations change. Tickets are limited to 26 seats per venue\, for a total of 104 tickets each weekend. \nTo celebrate the 10th anniversary of Theater on the Run\, we are trying something new this year! One show will be performed across five different locations! This year’s production is Murder on the Fly by C.A. Dougherty. \nOn both evenings\, The Matthews Opera House theater will be the location of the opening & finale performance. \nHow does Theater on the Run work?\nTheater on the Run begins at the Matthews Opera House\, with audience members separating into groups to go to various locations downtown. After each group has enjoyed a 15-20 minute scene of our play\, the audience rotates to the next location to view the next scene. This will continue until the finale\, where all four groups will meet back in the Matthews Opera House for the finale of the show. Each venue will have beverages for sale\, with some offering adult and some offering non-adult beverages. Venues provide appetizers in the cost of the ticket. \n“Theater on the run is a fun and unique way to experience theater which has made it one of our most popular events each year. After being forced to take a year off\, we are so excited to have Theater on the Run return!” says Darren Granaas\, executive director at The Matthews. “We’ve sold out since 2012 and have a limited amount of tickets\, so make sure to get them early. This event is one you won’t want to miss!” Tickets are only sold in The Matthews art gallery or online and must be purchased in advance. DESCRIPTION:See both “Once Upon A Shoe” and “All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play” in this special double feature performance on Sunday\, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. \n“Once Upon A Shoe” by Joseph Robinette: Mother Goose sadly announces to her children that they must leave their home—a large\, comfortable shoe—and move to an old sneaker “across the tracks.” The children decide to “put on a show” to save their shoe\, and in the best Garlandooney tradition\, they proceed to enact eight of Mother Goose’s best poems. In the audience\, a stranger turns out to be the famous movie producer Cecil B. DeMillstream and\, of course\, he loves the show! The shoe is saved and Mother Goose and her troupe are off to Hollywood. DESCRIPTION:PERFORMANCE CANCELED! We are so sad to announce that due to the increase in local cases of COVID-19\, we are canceling Theater: Running in Place. This is obviously the last thing we wanted to do\, but feel that this decision is in the best interest of the health of our patrons\, staff\, cast\, and volunteers. Masks will be required in the auditorium when not eating or drinking. \nHow will this be different from Theater on the Run?\nUsually\, Theater on the Run features five one-act plays at different downtown locations. First\, as a carefree young girl hopelessly in love with the mayor’s son and\, later\, as a successful magazine editor with a mysterious connection to a young man named Billy. As star-crossed teenagers\, Alice and small town heart-throb Jimmy Ray fell in love and their relationship resulted in a pregnancy that threatened the ambitions of Jimmy Ray’s father. The couple’s infant son was whisked away and a string of lies unraveled their happy ending before it could even begin. Years later\, now a successful literary editor\, Alice meets a promising young writer named Billy who awakens her longing for the son she lost. Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past and unlocks a secret that will change both of their lives forever. Tad was a strong supporter of the Music Department at Black Hills State University. As well as providing scholarship funds\, he was a major donor toward the purchase of a Steinway piano for the recital hall in Meier Hall. He was a distinguished faculty member in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for nearly forty years. As a result he was well aware of how difficult it is for faculty to find funding for the purchase of equipment for research and teaching. During a decade as head of his department\, he was a driving force in obtaining funding for equipment that would foster the careers of young professors. He was delighted to have the opportunity to quickly make a dream come true for the BHSU music professors who had launched a fund-raising effort to purchase a much needed world class piano. Students and faculty were profuse in their thanks to Tad. Just last fall Sandra sat in on a class through BHSU’s Visitor Pass program and as they left class a student said to her “I’m on my way over to Meier Hall to play on the Steinway. Thank you.” Tad would have loved to hear that comment! \n

DESCRIPTION:We have added a special Sunday matinee performance called Theater on the Run: Replay. Find out more info and purchase tickets HERE \nTheater on the Run is back for its eighth year on September 7 & 14 at 6:00 p.m! Each Saturday\, four downtown Spearfish businesses (for a total of 8 businesses) open their doors to a set of actors and a one-act play. The plays and cast remain the same on both dates\, just the downtown locations change. Tickets are limited to 26 seats per venue\, for a total of 104 tickets each weekend. \nOn both evenings\, The Matthews Opera House theater will be the location of the finale performance. \nHow does Theater on the Run work?\nTheater on the Run begins with four different groups of theater patrons–26 people each– starting at a pre-determined different location. After each group has enjoyed a 15-20 minute play\, the audience rotates to the next location to view the next production. This will continue until the finale\, where all four groups will meet in the Matthews Opera House for the last show. Each venue will have beverages for sale\, with some offering adult and some offering non-adult beverages. Venues provide appetizers in the cost of the ticket. \n“Theater on the run is a fun and unique way to experience theater which has made it one of our most popular events each year\,” says Becky Naccarato Eastburn\, executive director at The Matthews. “We’ve sold out since 2012 and have a limited amount of tickets\, so make sure to get them early. This event is one you won’t want to miss!” Tickets are only sold in The Matthews art gallery or online and must be purchased in advance. The participating venues will NOT be selling tickets. \nThe Sept. 7 play locations are:\nCommon Grounds\nGreen Oven\nJacket Zone\nBlackbird\nFinale: The Matthews theater \nThe Sept. 14 play locations are:\nGood Earth\nThe Venue\nStudio 621\nMad Platter\nFinale: The Matthews theater \nOnly 104 tickets per evening!\nWe have only 104 tickets each for Sept. 7 and 14\, for a total of 208 tickets.
