SUMMARY:Zoom with Santa
DESCRIPTION:The Matthews Opera House received the following special message from Santa Clause: \nHo! Ho! Hello! \nGreetings kids and parents of Spearfish! Every December the Matthews Opera House invites me to come and spend the afternoon with you. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. I just love seeing your faces and hearing your Christmas wishes. However\, this year the COVID pandemic is making it a little more difficult to see you in person. Safety is very important (Mrs. Claus is an especially big stickler for following rules and guidelines) and so I’ve been working with the staff at the Matthews to find a jolly way to still say hello but from a distance. \nThis year\, the elves have set up a special Zoom line at the Matthews and I’ll be using that to talk to all the boys and girls in the Spearfish area. I will have times available on December 5 & 12 from 1-3 pm. After that\, I will need to get back to the North Pole to feed the reindeer! They get mighty grumpy if I’m late with their carrots. \nAll you have to do is tell your parents to call the Matthews Opera House (605.642.7973) to set up an appointment. I want to make sure we also help the Matthews during the season of giving so all I ask is that you make a free-will donation of any amount to the Matthews while reserving your spot.  \nI can’t wait to talk to you and hear about everything you want for Christmas! See you soon! \n \n  \n  \n  \nSupport the Matthews Opera House for Giving Tuesday and reserve your spot to Zoom with Santa! Call our gallery at 604.642.7973 or stop by!

SUMMARY:The Matthews Celebrate SD Day of Giving
DESCRIPTION:Today is a day to celebrate all the nonprofits in our state and the incredible work they do! As a 501c3 organization ourselves\, we want to thank YOU for supporting us this past year. Whether you have donated money or time\, attended a performance\, or even just shared one of our posts on social media…..you have helped us thrive! \nWith COVID-19 canceling many of our events\, this past year has been difficult for our organization in so many unexpected ways. We have already been amazed and overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity our supporters have shown. During this annual day of giving\, we ask for your support once again. \nIf you are willing to donate\, there are three ways this can happen: \n\nDonate online to the Matthews HERE. If you would rather donate in person\, you can come to the gallery today during business hours. You can also donate via mail. Instructions are listed at the donation link.\nYou can schedule a special Zoom call with Santa Claus! Appointments are available on December 5 & 12 from 1 pm to 5 pm. A free-will donation of your choice is suggested. Find out more HERE.\nShop in our gallery and purchase locally handcrafted gifts for you or your loved ones. This not only supports our organization but the Black Hills artist that created your piece as well!\n\nThank you for your consideration and the support you have already shown the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center. We are so eager for the day when our theatre will be filled with an audience once again!

SUMMARY:Stay at Home Sellout
DESCRIPTION:This time of social distancing has been difficult for arts organizations like the Matthews Opera House. A few weekends ago\, we would have been celebrating the opening of “Stepping Out\,” but instead our historic theater seats remained empty. \nBut art doesn’t stop just because we can’t have events. There are still many local artists creating\, local musicians singing\, and local actors just itching to get back to the spotlight. Through our gallery and virtual events\, we have been able to share some of these works with you\, but we need your help to make sure we can keep doing what we’re doing now and in the future. \nThat’s why\, on May 5\, we are putting together a special Giving Tuesday NOW fundraiser! We want to have a “sold out” show\, even if no one will actually be in our theater. How will this work? Here are the details: \n\nAnyone willing to donate will be able to “purchase tickets” to our fundraiser event. Each seat will be $15 and you can even choose your favorite seats! IMPORTANT: There will not be a physical event. Each $15 ticket purchase will be treated as a donation.\nYou can purchase tickets either online\, by calling 605.642.7973\, or by stopping by the gallery during business hours (10 am – 5 pm\, Tuesday – Saturday). $15 donations sent online will have a $1.50 processing fee. No fee will be added to “ticket” donations purchased via phone.\nYou will get a confirmation email thanking you for your contribution. Reply to this email with a selfie picture of you and your family. \nOn Tuesday\, May 5\, we will be putting pictures of the families who purchase seats on the seats they purchase and publishing pictures to social media throughout the day.\n\nIf we can sell out the entire auditorium (all 283 seats)\, we will bring in over $4000 to support the arts in the Spearfish area! \nAt the end of the day\, around 7:30 p.m.\, we will celebrate by releasing our second episode of MOH at Home: Virtual Songbook. We have some incredible South Dakota musicians who are excited to share their music with you.  \nThank you all for your support! And while we can’t see you in our theater for a while\, we hope to see your photo on a seat on Tuesday\, May 5.

SUMMARY:26th Annual Holiday High Tea
DESCRIPTION:One of our oldest and favorite annual events is just around the corner.  The Holiday High Tea is scheduled for Saturday\, Dec. 14\, 1:00-2:30 p.m. in The Matthew’s Theater.  Tickets go on sale November 1.  They will be available during business hours in the gallery\, by phone (605.642.7973)\, or online. All seats are $30.  Tickets must be purchased no later than Dec. 7. \nThis event is currently sold out! Make sure to mark your calendars for when next year’s Holiday High Tea tickets go on sale: November 1\, 2020 at 10:00 am. \nOur attendees come in all ages\, sizes\, and gender.  Many patrons arrive in their favorite hats\, including the children.  The tea is a step back to a more gentile time of connecting with friends and family while enjoying homemade pastries\, tea sandwiches\, and\, of course\, tea.  It’s also an afternoon to take a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping. \nMulled Wine and Silent Auction\nAn added beverage will be available for purchase — mulled wine! Tis the season. So\, if you’d like to partake\, remember to bring some cash with you. \nDuring this year’s event\, there will be a fun silent auction.  Time to finish up your holiday shopping!  Also\, we will be raffling off select centerpieces. \nWe encourage anyone interested in coming to the Holiday High Tea\, to not wait too long.  This event typically sells out!
