DESCRIPTION:This is season number 12 of the Bellman’s Holiday Spearfish Piano Duets. \nA variety of talented pianists will perform together at noon\, Wednesday\, Dec. 9.  This event\, as for all Bellman events\, is FREE and open to the public. \nMusic for the Holidays is the title of this year’s concert of the Spearfish Piano Duet Club.  The program will include pianists Sandra Asheim\, Sue Cole\, Donna Dettman\, Ramona Hauck\, Ardyth Helmer\, Aubrey Hoard\, Connie Hubbard\, Laura Kolb\, Janeen Larsen\, Colleen McKirdy\, Lori Miller\, Angela O’Shea\, and Erica Sowers. \nPIANO DUET INFORMATIONThe Spearfish Duet Club began in 2003\, under the leadership of Synva Chrysler and Marianne Bieber. It was a way for intermediate and advanced pianists to maintain their piano skills and at the same time have fun and enjoy each others’ musical talents. Members of the community\, as well as BHSU music students and faculty\, are involved in the performance and rehearsal activities. The club is actually a loose association of pianists with a passion for four-hand literature. Each pair of partners selects music that is holiday-oriented\, or they may choose familiar classical pieces. Dr. Janeen Larsen coordinates and organizes the programs. DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Ethan Engel\, Art & Graphic Design Communications student\, BHSU \nEthan is a graphic design and communications major at BHSU. His work has been chosen for the VSA Emerging Young Artists Program. The VSA Emerging Young Artists Program provides opportunities for young artists with disabilities\, aged 16 to 25\, to participate in the arts and explore the possibilities of pursuing arts-based careers. Only 15 artists are selected out of hundreds of entries. Engel’s piece\, “Overcast\,” won an Award of Excellence in the program. \n“Overcast” is currently on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s Dillon Ripley Center in Washington D.C. Engels work will remain on display until Jan. 5. SUMMARY:Bellman Brown Bag: The Hold-up!
DESCRIPTION:Paul Higbee shares with us his research discoveries on the Hold-up of the Spearfish-Miles City Stage Coach in 1894.  Paul was contacted by a retired officer from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department who was writing a  book describing some of the most thrilling stagecoach robberies from 1875-1905\, among them\, the Spearfish-Miles City robbery in 1894.  Spearfish’s local historian\, Paul Higbee unearthed the story through local newspaper articles and records from U.S. District Court of South Dakota in Sioux Falls\, weaving a fascinating who-done-it narrative.  His capture of local history in 1894 is documented in the book\, “Great Stagecoach Robberies of the Old West” by R. Programs are presented on the second Wednesday of each month\, noon to 1:00 p.m. Designed to begin and end within each lunch hour\, patrons are invited to bring their lunch\, if desired\, or simply enjoy an hour of learning and entertainment. \nTHIS MONTH\n \nIt’s a Holiday Celebration! \nFIRST DECADE is the title of the December concert of the Spearfish Piano Duet Club on Wednesday\, December 11\, 12:00 noon at Matthews Opera House Theater in downtown Spearfish. \nThis will be the tenth year the club has performed on the popular Bellman Brown Bag series. The Spearfish Duet Club began in 2003\, under the leadership of Synva Chrysler and Marianne Bieber\, as a way for intermediate and advanced pianists to maintain their piano skills and at the same time have fun and enjoy each others’ musical talents. Members of the community as well as BHSU music students and faculty are involved in the performance and rehearsal activities. \nThe club is actually a loose association of pianists with a passion for four-hand literature. Each pair of partners selects music that is holiday-oriented\, or they may choose familiar classical pieces. Dr. Janeen Larsen coordinates and organizes the programs so they are enjoyable for the audience and not too lengthy. The performers also present a more serious classical program each spring at Meier Recital Hall at BHSU. \nThe program will include regular members Sandra Asheim\, Susan Cole\, Donna Dettman\, Ramona Hauck\, Ardyth Helmer\, Rita Hicks\, Connie Hubbard\, Laura Kolb\, Janeen Larsen\, Dianna Lloyd\, Colleen McKirdy\, Lori Miller\, Angela OShea\, and Symeon Waseen as well as several BHSU student participants.
